Soapstone (steatite) is a metamorphic rock, generally a massive talc schist which can contain a variety of other minerals. It is a very soft material popular with novice and master carvers alike that can readily worked into forms such as bowls, pipes, or figures. Blocky pieces, hand selected for carving.
