Flowerstone (Flower Feldspar)
Locality: Vancouver Island,
British Columbia, Canada
This unusual material is known by rockhounds by the names Flowerstone
and Flower Feldspar, which are quite descriptive of the material.
This Feldspar Phenocryst in Basalt material might be referred to
as Basalt Porphyry by geologists. However, we think that's pretty
boring and not appropriate for such a beautiful gemstone. Either way,
it's darn cool stuff and cuts unusual stones. The material we have
contains nice, big "flowers".
Flowerstone doesn't look like much on the outside, but the slab on
the right shows the beauty that lies under the surface.
Flower Feldspar comes from the beaches of Vancouver Island, British
Columbia and has never been available in large quantities. It cuts
easily and takes a nice polish with diamond or tin oxide.
