Ruby in Zoisite Rough Ruby in Zoisite has a deep green base (Zoisite) with black streaks of hornblende and spots of ruby. Ruby in Zoisite has been a favorite stone because it makes beautiful slabs, spheres and finished stones. The ruby often shows a chatoyant-like reflection. The two components of Ruby in Zoisite are different hardnesses. So, it cuts and polishes well with diamond. In order to keep the ruby from spalling in finer grit stages, it's best to use loose diamond, or diamond compound in the 600 and finer grits. Mohs hardness is approximately 9 for the ruby and 6.5 for the zoisite.
