Cacoxenite in Amethyst Rough - $35/pound
Locality:
Brazil
Cacoxenite is from Brazil and was mined out years ago. It is now even difficult to find in Brazil. We were lucky to get some cacoxenite from an old collection and excited to be able to offer this rare material.
This cacoxenite has an amethyst base with a splay of flat rutile-like golden needles inside.
Be forewarned, cacoxenite contains fractures as is typical of all included quartz. The fractures usually don't reduce the beauty of the finished stone and sometimes can create a wonderful rainbow effect. Cacoxenite takes a high polish with cerium
oxide, but also takes a fine polish with tin oxide and diamond. Mohs hardness 7.
