Larimar (Pectolite) Rough $.80/gram
The mineral name for Larimar is pectolite. It is an interesting lapidary material with aquamarine blues and whites. Some areas may display chatoyance! The Dominican Republic has limited the amount of rough being exported from the country. Good lapidary rough has become difficult to find and we feel lucky to have been able to get this great material. The crystalline structure of larimar can make it a bit crumbly when sawing and grinding. However, it takes a fine polish with diamond, tin or cerium oxide. These stones were photographed wet to show what it looks like when polished. Mohs hardness 5.
